To the Women Who Choose the Adventure

 Happy International Women's Day!!!

Source

Every March 8—which also happens to be my birthday—we celebrate and honor women.

So let me ask an honest question:

Where can we find the woman who responds to every challenge with a big laugh and says, “Nothing is too difficult for me! That can be easily done!”?

The answer?

Nowhere.

And perhaps that’s the point.

As I reflect on the modern-day adventurers I’ve met, I realize something important: these women didn’t play it safe. They played boldly. Sometimes even dangerously. They followed a calling that was bigger than themselves—something daunting, intimidating, and far beyond comfort.

And I believe this kind of courage is exactly what we need in a culture that often prefers convenience over conviction.

Lorelee

When I think of the day I met Lorelee in Cebu, I’m flooded with memories that are happy, warm, and unforgettable. We did almost everything together. She was more than a friend—she felt like a sister.

We encouraged one another in our walks with Jesus, and she was one of my very first friendships that was truly grounded in Christ.

When she eventually decided to return to her hometown and our paths diverged, we made a commitment to stay close. We called each other, exchanged messages regularly, and held on to our bond despite the distance.

Then one day, she told me she had decided to move to Dubai.

Instead of fear, I felt excitement for her. I knew this was going to be a grand adventure—a chance for her to shine Christ’s light in a completely new and unfamiliar place. Leaving everything familiar behind to step into a foreign land takes courage.

It wasn’t going to be all rainbows and butterflies. But she didn’t choose comfort. She chose obedience. She didn’t miss the adventure God had placed before her—and that is bold.

Laddie

It was summer, the first day of the DOST SOEP program, when I met Laddie. Our English instructor asked us to pair up for an exercise, and we instantly became partners.

Laddie had a way of brightening every room she entered. She seemed to sprinkle fairy dust wherever she went, always carrying herself with quiet strength and gentleness.

After graduation, she moved to the capital to work for one of the biggest banks in the country. To me, that felt both astonishing and brave.

Then one day, she opened up about her heartaches. I imagined her sitting on the floor, overwhelmed and in tears. She was facing discouragement—but she wasn’t facing it alone. She had to make decisions that were incredibly difficult.

What I admire most about Laddie is her courage. She’s an ordinary person, just like you and me—yet there she was, walking on water in the middle of a storm. Still choosing growth. Still living her adventure.

So, Now What?

Among my girlfriends, there is no competition or shallow gossip. Instead, we choose to support, carry, and cheer one another on. We see each other as family, and I treasure them deeply.

Most of my friends—single or married—embrace their journeys with grace. There isn’t much complaining, only learning and growing. And for that, I am profoundly grateful.

It truly matters who we surround ourselves with. Choosing to walk alongside positive, courageous women makes all the difference. 🙂

To every woman reading this: I hope you are living your most exciting adventure yet.
